Dorward will lead fundraising and participation for the 120-person committee
SCOTTSDALE, AZ – The Fiesta Bowl has appointed Dave Dorward as Chair of the Yellow Jacket Committee for the 2019-20 season. Dorward’s one-year term starts immediately, following Jeff Smith who led the committee through the 2018-19 season.
“Dave has been a valuable member of the Yellow Jacket Committee since he joined nearly 10 years ago,” said Patrick Barkley, Chair of the Fiesta Bowl Board of Directors. “The Yellow Jacket Committee are huge contributors to all that we do and represents this organization in a variety of ways year-round. Our success as an organization is directly related to an engaged Yellow Jacket Committee and I’m confident that Dave will bring that engagement to new heights in the year ahead.”
As Yellow Jacket Committee Chair, Dorward will lead the fundraising and participation efforts of this year’s committee, which is comprised of 120 community leaders who volunteer their time to work with sponsors, volunteers, staff and the board of directors to support the Fiesta Bowl and its numerous events throughout the year. This past season, the committee raised $3 million and helped to successfully execute all Fiesta Bowl events and charitable giving efforts.
“I am so excited to have the honor and privilege of being the 49th Chairman of the Fiesta Bowl Yellow Jacket Committee,” said Dorward. “Our organization continues to remain committed in supporting the local community via all of our various venues throughout the year and I look forward in being a part of that by helping lead our Yellow Jacket members and all of our wonderful volunteers this upcoming year. The entire Yellow Jacket Committee remains highly focused on our continued charitable and economic impact we bring to Arizona and we expect this season to be a very successful year for the organization.”
Dorward has been an active member of the Yellow Jacket Committee since his involvement began in 2010 and was named Committee Member of the Year in 2015-16. Dorward was a Sales Commissioner in 2015, the Lead Sales Commissioner in 2016 when the Committee raised $3.4 million and was the Lead Engagement Commissioner in 2017. Dorward has also served as a team liaison and chaired the Fiesta Bowl Hole-in-One competition.
Outside of the Fiesta Bowl, Dorward serves as the Senior Resident Director of the North Scottsdale Office for Merrill Lynch and is a Senior Vice President with the firm. Dorward began his career in the financial services industry in 1995 and joined Merrill Lynch in 1997. Since then, he has held a number of leadership positions with the firm and was named to the prestigious Forbes “Best-in-State Wealth Advisors” list this year. Dorward and his wife have two children and reside in Paradise Valley.
In addition to the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl and the Cheez-It Bowl, the hard work of the committee has allowed the Fiesta Bowl to enhance organizations that contribute to the success of their communities through youth, sports and education. Over the past eight years, the Fiesta Bowl has contributed $12.5 million to the Arizona community, including $2.5 million in each of the 2018-19 and 2017-18 seasons.
