Teachers can apply for a $5,000 wish grant starting October 6 on WishesForTeachers.org
SCOTTSDALE, AZ – Following up an incredibly successful inaugural year of its Wishes for Teachers program, Fiesta Bowl Charities announces a first-ever text to donate campaign as part of a new partnership with azcentral to enhance Arizona classrooms.
Fiesta Bowl Charities will match up to $500,000 in contributions, with the ultimate goal to substantially increase the overall funding and the number of teachers who will enjoy a $5,000 wish. The Arizona Republic and azcentral have joined in the efforts by spearheading a text to donate initiative that will directly raise the funding totals and also providing promotional support for this important campaign.
To donate to the Wishes for Teachers program, text ‘TEACHERS’ to 51555 or use the online donation form. The contribution period is open through November 3.
“Wishes for Teachers hits the nail right on the head of the Fiesta Bowl mission to support Arizonans through education, youth and sports,” said Steve Leach, Fiesta Bowl Chairman of the Board of Directors. “Education is the foundation for success in life, from youth through adulthood. The more money we raise, the more we directly pass through to equip our teachers with extra tools and make them even more impactful than they are today.”
Fiesta Bowl Charities created Wishes for Teachers in 2016 and granted $500,000 to 100 teachers statewide, with each teacher receiving $5,000 to bolster resources in schools and benefit students. The organization saw that many teachers spent money on their own to enhance their classroom experience and developed a program to aid teachers in that effort. “We couldn’t have been more pleased with our first year’s achievements in helping Arizona’s teachers make their classrooms better. Teachers give so much in their daily commitment to building our future leaders,” said Fiesta Bowl Executive Director Mike Nealy. “Wishes for Teachers gives a boost of support for a really important group of people and helps them create new educational tracks, purchase much-needed current-day equipment and inspire growth in their students.”
“This an exciting opportunity to literally make teachers’ wishes come true,” said Mi-Ai Parrish, President of azcentral and The Arizona Republic. “We were impressed by the Fiesta Bowl’s work in this critical area and immediately signed on to help do even more to enrich Arizona’s youth in the classroom.”
To submit their wish, teachers fill out an online application form detailing their school or classroom need and, after meeting the criteria, wishes are selected by random drawing to receive a $5,000 grant. The application period runs from Friday, October 6, through Friday, November 3, with the form located at WishesForTeachers.org.
In addition to the financial gift, selected teachers have the opportunity to be recognized in the National Bank of Arizona Fiesta Bowl Parade and on-field at the 29th Annual Cactus Bowl at Chase Field.
