Fiesta Bowl will match up to $500,000 from community donations, with a goal to serve 200 teachers
SCOTTSDALE, AZ – As part of its mission to benefit Arizonans through youth, sports and education, the Fiesta Bowl organization opened applications for its Fiesta Bowl Charities Wishes for Teachers program, where teachers can submit their wish on how they would use a $5,000 grant to help benefit their classrooms.
Arizona K-12 public or charter school teachers fill out an online application detailing their school or classroom need and, after meeting the criteria, wishes are selected by random drawing for teachers to receive a $5,000 grant. The application period runs through October 8 and, for the first time, local community heroes and celebrities will select and personally notify each teacher who receives a grant as part of the Wishes for Teachers Draft Day on Thursday, October 25.
“Fiesta Bowl Wishes for Teachers has become the model program to support teachers since its inception in 2016,” said Steve Leach, chairman of the Fiesta Bowl Board of Directors. “Education is the foundation for success in life and the Fiesta Bowl is committed to assisting individual teachers to make a greater impact on their student’s lives. Teachers should not be forced to use personal funds to enhance their classrooms and we are honored to provide Fiesta Bowl Charities funds for that purpose.”
Fiesta Bowl Charites will match up to $500,000 of the funds donated from the public, ultimately helping the program raise $1 million to benefit 200 teachers at $5,000 each. Past grants have benefitted teachers in technology, reading, music and more. During the first two years of the program, Fiesta Bowl Wishes for Teachers granted $1.2 million to Arizona teachers, impacting over 60,000 kids across the state.

“This program recognizes, honors and celebrates Arizona’s teachers for the dedicated service they give our children. It’s exciting to see Wishes for Teachers grow its impact every year, by serving even more teachers across the state,” said Mike Nealy, Fiesta Bowl Executive Director. “We are deeply committed to helping our teachers get the classroom support they need so they can help students achieve academic success and become the future leaders they have the potential to be.”
In addition to the financial grant, selected teachers will be recognized in the Fiesta Bowl Parade on Saturday, December 29, and on-field at the 30th Annual Cheez-It® Bowl at Chase Field on Tuesday, December 26.
