In a match-up that featured two of the top 30 defenses in college football, TCU escaped the 30th Annual Cheez-It Bowl with a 10-7 overtime victory over Cal. The teams combined for nine interceptions, the most in Cheez-It Bowl history.

After winning three of its last four games to close the 2018 season and become bowl eligible, TCU (7-6, 4-5) allowed Cal (7-6,4-5) to strike first. The Bears quickly hung up seven after Chase Garbers ran it in from four yards out with four minutes to go in the first quarter.

The Horned Frogs and Cal exchanged possessions, including five interceptions, before TCU was able to come up with a TD after Sewo Olonilua capitalized on a 1-yard run at the goal line.

At the end of regulation and tied at seven, TCU kicker Cole Bunce hooked a 44-yard field goal attempt wide left and sent the game into overtime.

Cal opened overtime with the game’s ninth and final interception, allowing TCU to retry its missed field goal attempt. This time, kicker Jonathan Song connected from 27 yards for the second straight bowl victory for the Horned Frogs.
